Drug Raid: Fentanyl, Cocaine, Cash Seized From Poughkeepsie Pair, DA Says

A major drug bust in Dutchess County led to the arrests of two alleged high-level narcotics dealers after coordinated raids in Poughkeepsie, authorities announced.

The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force executed simultaneous search warrants on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at a residence on Marshall Street and the Poughkeepsie Commons Apartment Complex, the DA's office announced Tuesday, Feb. 18. The operation resulted in the seizure of large quantities of cocaine, crack cocaine, fentanyl, packaging materials, scales, U.S. currency, and two vehicles, officials said.

The suspects, identified as 49-year-old Terence Whitted and 35-year-old Deon T. Elting, had been under investigation for allegedly distributing large amounts of dangerous drugs throughout the region, authorities said.

Elting was taken into custody at his residence on Marshall Street and charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, a Class A-1 felony. He was arraigned in Poughkeepsie City Court and ordered held at the Dutchess County Jail without bail. Officials say additional charges are pending.

Whitted was arrested at the Poughkeepsie Commons Apartment Complex and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree, a Class A-2 felony. He was also arraigned and remanded to the county jail without bail.

Authorities say more arrests are expected as the investigation continues.

The coordinated raids were executed with assistance from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Patrol Bureau and Detective Bureau, the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department’s Community Policing and Neighborhood Recovery Units, the Hyde Park Police Department, the District Attorney’s Violent Crime and Dangerous Drug Bureau, and the New York State Police Crime Suppression Unit.
